Running through the heart of Durango is the Animas River; it is a beautiful freshwater river that runs down off the mountains. The locals go 'tubing' down the river, you can Kayak, Raft and Paddle. And it's all free (we are planning to go on a river rafting experience organised by local companies). We have been down to the river a couple of times and the children braved the fresh cold water!
Whilst walking from the River to the public library we saw some Deer; deer and elk pretty much roam free here and it's not unusual to see one walking down the street!
The public library here is amazing; 3 floors of resources, books, study rooms, outside spaces, a cafe and book shop. I could easily have spent all day there - but as much as the children liked it I am not sure I could convince them to spend that long! Sophie however is planning to go there to have some space to complete some Maths GCSE work she has with her.
As a 'treat' we visited an American Macdonalds. Never again. It was pure sugar, high fructose syrup rubbish. Even the children were not impressed. And the place had lots of overweight, over consuming Americans.
Following a faux pas of mine when trying to cook in Fahrenheit and with an unfamiliar oven, dinner was still not cooked by 6:30pm last night. As the younger children were on the brink of meltdown from hunger, we decided to head out to eat and experienced a place called 'Serious Texas BBQ'. Talk about protein overload! They were good ribs though and the restaurant was pretty funky too:
Thank goodness we are walking, cycling and being out and about lots otherwise I think we would be coming home a couple of sizes larger!
